Hello old subscribers and new,
It has been a while since the last update. Let’s say the return to work after 8-weeks off (paternity leave and the 6-weeks off) took some adjusting to. Boletín suddenly felt like a luxury I couldn’t afford to create but I did enjoy making some resources on immigration and technology. Dicho eso, I have found some time this weekend so edition 94 is ready to download.
At KS5 we are working through the internet topic so this edition is for my year 12s. The exam style question is a set b speaking card and whilst I remember here is a really good resource for debate style language by the wonderful sonríeinspanish.
Grammar to look out for in edition 94
Present tense regulars and irregulars
Definite and indefinite articles
Present perfect
Imperfect tense
Past participles as adjectives
Connectives
Gerund verbs
Preterite tense
Future tense regulars and irregulars
The teaching of Volver
My year 12s and I have been exploring Almodóvar for weeks now and are due to watch the film this week (reminder to myself to leave the room at the 16 minute mark).
I was amazed at the quality of essays produced last year by my current year 13s and have had the scripts back for one essay which was marked 35/36 and another at 32/36. I will be transcribing them to use as models this year so keep an eye out for my free Volver booklet which is constantly evolving.
The opening line of one of the essays blew me away.
Qué Almodóvar hable de las mujeres no es una novedad.
Currently the booklet includes:
Scanned/marked up press cuttings bought from Spain including great background information on the director. (The opening line above came from these!)
A reading comprehension on public opinion.
Key vocabulary and icons related to the film + GCSE writing style task.
A parallel reader interview with the director about el más allá, la muerte, su madre, los costumbres y las vecinas/mujeres compiled from interview books.
Character analysis verbs and adjectives.
Relationship writing.
The use of colour, camera and sound.
Theme analysis.
The evaluation of cultural and societal contexts.
Key quotes.
Essay writing checklist.
