cultural appropriation is the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially without showing that you understand or respect this culture.
Some have criticised Disney claiming cultural apropriation with Coco which they alledgeldy wanted to originally title Día de Muertos. This latter title, it is claimed, Disney attempted to copyright eventually pulling the plug after a public backlash. This might be worth a conversation in class before discussion card 1 question 3: ¿Es Coco un ejemplo de apropiación cultural?.
It seems el Día de Muertos has certainly been globalised. Below is a great video of un poco loco sung in multiple different languages.
